Process

Work on the Mystic Mile is the result of one of the most detailed and inclusive public reviews in the history of Massachusetts.

  • More than 20 detailed plans totaling more than 10,000 pages of exhaustive studies
  • Reviewed by 3 federal agencies, 12 state agencies, 14 municipalities and 20 local organizations over a period of more than three years
  • 275 letters from agencies, elected officials, municipalities, organizations and individuals
  • Responded to over 1,500 comments

Cost

Wynn is spending more than $264 million in private funds to upgrade area roads in Boston, Everett, Medford, Revere and Chelsea and to help reduce traffic congestion in the region. No public or taxpayer funds are being used to finance any of this work.

  • $58 million for road improvements
  • Includes $11 million for Sullivan Square improvements prior to the 2019 opening of Wynn Boston Harbor, and $25 million to support a long-term solution for Sullivan Square in the City of Boston
  • $206 million for transportation demand management
  • Includes improvements to Wellington and Malden MBTA stations to accommodate Wynn shuttles, land and water shuttle operating costs for Wynn guests and employees, funding for a study of a planned pedestrian bridge across the Mystic River and payments to the MBTA to subsidize Orange Line operations

SULLIVAN SQUARE, BOSTON

More than $11 million is being spent by Wynn for work in Sullivan Square that will be completed prior to the resort’s opening in 2019. Much of the $11 million roadwork will fit into the future long-term plan that the City of Boston is designing, and that Wynn is supporting with an additional $25 million payment.

  • Sullivan Square (I-93 ramp, Alford, Sever, Main and Cambridge Streets): Adding sidewalks and turning lanes, widening lanes, optimizing traffic signals, opening streets to divert traffic from square
  • Sullivan Square to Austin Street: Interconnecting traffic signals and linking them to the City of Boston
  • Rutherford Avenue and Route 1 on-ramp: Traffic signal optimization
  • Sullivan Square: Landscaping
